Rare and Costlier than Diamond

We all know that the platinum is very costly metal to afford for everyone. It is described as a very noble metal due to its various attributes thus it costlier than other metals but the foremost thing is, that it’s an exceptionally rare metal around the world which increases its importance among the users and the sellers too. Platinum is not used for just making ornaments but it is used in many engineering transformations and medicines, where the maximum amount of it is being used as compared to jewellery.

Platinum with pure atomic number 78 has given it a silver-white colour and due to its malleable and ductile property, it can be shaped into thin sheets and wires. It doesn’t get reacted even at high temperatures and corrosion. Platinum is not found anywhere in the world, even there are a very few places where platinum is available in its raw form, In fact, South Africa & the Ural Mountain in Russia are the two places where more than 90% of the whole world’s platinum is yielded and is mixed with the chemicals belong to the same metallic group such as nickel. Comparatively other large sources of Platinum are found in Colombia and Canada.

Platinum is found in the very deep crust of the earth surface. It needs high manpower, money and time to get it out from the surface moreover, platinum cannot be readily isolated by just fire purification method as like used for gold and silver but the platinum metals require a comparatively advanced and expensive process to get it in its real form. It requires complicated aqueous chemical processing like solubilization, fractional distillation, assaying etc. for the isolation of the platinum methods. These techniques were not available any time soon in the last century and the process of isolation of platinum metals took thousands of years.

Platinum is used for making autocatalysts, which converts environmentally damaging car emissions, such as carbon monoxide, into carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapours. It is also used for refining raw oil and processing of petroleum products too. These all process are very expensive which tend to increase the cost the platinum. Out of that many uses of it is found in the medical field for making pacemakers.

The most common use of platinum is jewellery and because platinum is 30 times rarer than gold, therefore increase the chances of being costlier than other metals. Platinum jewellery is very exclusive and provides a high-class status symbol to its wearer. The metallic bonds in platinum are very closely formed thus make it a hard metal to shape. Therefore platinum takes almost thrice the time in shaping than the gold.

The weight of platinum is considered in the carats same as gold and purity also depend upon the carats. It is found that the platinum jewellery sold in the United States is 95% pure while it may be 85% in other countries. Because of its high purity level, it is known as a hypoallergic metal which means it can be worn without any worry of damaging or harming the skin even a person who is allergic to gold and silver can easily wear the platinum jewellery.

Due to its durability, platinum is used for adjusting gemstones in it because its strength seems to hold the diamond tightly without losing it grip in the long term. It upholds its colour, brightness and weight for a long time whereas other metals may lose their lustre or become flawed.

Occupy a lot of features, platinum is found as a costlier but rare metal on the earth yet a beautiful and long-lasting treasure for everyone.
